‘Landmark’ new bridge for Toronto waterfront starting to take shape
Once installed, it will span the Keating Channel from the southeast foot of Parliament Slip to the northwest tip of Biidaasige Park North on Ookwemin Minising, providing another crossing for pedestrians and cyclists.
The bridge's design, known as Equinox Bridge, features an S-shaped suspended arch supported by fanning cables. According to Waterfront Toronto, the design is intended to reflect the sun's movement during solstices and equinoxes.
The project is being developed by Waterfront Toronto and the City of Toronto in collaboration with the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.
Planned features include Indigenous constellations incorporated into metal windbreaks along the bridge, as well as lighting, wayfinding and traffic-calming measures for pedestrians and cyclists.
The bridge will connect the Water's Edge Promenade near Parliament Slip to Biidaasige Park North and the wider network of trails along the Don River.
The project is funded in part by the federal government.
